Sports Facts That Will Wow Your Friends

There are many obvious sports trivia facts that your typical fan could spit off effortlessly, as if it were as obvious as simple addition. Everyone knows about Wilt Chamberlain's 100 point game, Rickey Henderson's 130 stolen bases in a season, Joe DiMaggio's 56 game hit streak, and other record-breaking feats.

Here are some more that may interest you. They cover all sports, and some of these are simply amazing. There's no doubt that you'll be pretty surprised by some of the things that you see.

Two high schools in North Carolina set the record for the most overtimes in a single game. Playing 13 overtimes, the final score was just 56-54. Makes you wonder how bad they must have been!

People admire many baseball players and what they do at the home run derby every All-Star break, but did you know that Babe Ruth once hit 125 home runs in an hour during batting practice? This is over triple anything ever hit in the home run derby. Can you imagine how much that could drain an athlete? That's over two per minute!

Many players in recent years have served above 130 MPH, a few above 140, and a select few above 150, but Michael Sangster of England served 154 MPH in 1963, all done with a wooden racquet.

A man by the name of Robert Wyler, from Glendale, CA, has played as many as 1,000 games of chess, all through the mail.

Every year in baseball, over 900,000 baseballs are used during the course of a season. Almost enough to pay one player's salary!

A golfer by the name of Art Wall, Jr. hit 37 holes in one through the span of his career. This is more than any other golfer can claim.

Shaquille O'Neal's shoe size is a 22. All of his sneakers are specially made for him and his huge feet.

The first hockey puck ever used in a game wasn't anything like your typical puck today. It was actually a piece of frozen cow manure.

The Olympics in ancient Rome were played by completely nude athletes. No one wore anything at all.
