Is It True Hockey Still A Major Sport?
Not very long ago, hockey was right up there with NFL Football, NBA Basketball and Major League Baseball as one of the most popular sports in the US. The other three are still going strong, with the NFL still dominant in the American sports scene.
In fact, hockey is not truly considered to be in that big four grouping any longer. Of course, a more accurate description of the sports climate might show that NASCAR and MMA have joined the NFL, NBA and MLB in that top tier. Hockey however is on the outside looking in, no longer enjoying the popularity it once did.
Why did the NHL suffer this rapid decline? Was it the lockout which caused there to be no 2004-2005 season? The lockout was only a symptom of a deeper problem; sadly, it all has to do with money rather than the merits of hockey as a sport. NHL franchises began finding themselves in a sticky situation; salaries for players continued to climb even as revenues declined for many teams. Other than hugely popular franchises like the Rangers and the Red Wings, teams found themselves simply unable to pay the salaries commanded by many NHL players.
They weren't making enough revenue to pull it off. Revenue is brought in for sports teams through several areas, the most important of which are television rights and ticket sales. As the popularity of the sport waned, these sources of income did as well. Therefore the lockout was a result of the problem, not the cause of the problem.
The lockout however certainly didn't help the situation. When hockey returned the next season they made a deal with the network known as OLN - now Versus - to broadcast their weekly national games. However that cable station reaches only a small fraction of the homes that the major networks reach. This means that hockey simply isn't viewable by a great deal of the population, leaving it in a spot where it can hardly increase its popularity.
Adding to this problem is the fact that hockey isn't the most captivating sport to watch on television. It is a fantastic sport to take in live. This helps explain why the sport is so popular in major metropolitan areas where there is a hockey team. These fans get to go to the games and take in the rabid culture. You can hear the turns and stops of the skating, you can feel the jarring checks as players hit the ice and fall into the boards. The speed and precise nature of the game comes out in a way that it simply cannot on television. Those people who never see a game in person therefore, may not even know what they are missing out on by not being a hockey fan.
Therefore the answer to the question is that no, hockey is no longer one of the major sports in this country. It has lost it's place in that upper echelon, and is struggling for a strategy to get back. It needs to find a way to make its television games more exciting, while also getting those games aired in a spot where more people can view them. Ultralight Bass Fishing Lures For The Dog Days Of Summer
When people conjure up thoughts of ultralight bass fishing during the mid summer heat, they typically return to thinking about the air conditioning, and television. What the hey, it's more comfortable anyways, right? What you don't realize is that you just cost yourself some of the best bass experiences you could have imagined.
One of everybodies favorite ultralight bass fishing styles is using topwater baits. So yeah, name somebody who doesn't love a big blowup, especially on a small lure! When people are talking about the subject, poppers, and buzzbaits are usually the top of the conversation. People have caught more fish with these 2 lures, than with any other topwater baits combined.
Early in the morning, or earlier in the evening, just after the sun has settled in, and your eyes adjust to the change is the best time to apply topwater in mid summer. Choosing the right bait to use at the right time is the key to landing more fish.
With the water heating up to uncomfortable conditions this time of year, the bass tend to not chase baits actively during the day. This is why waiting until the water cools down to use the faster moving baits is key.

When the economy overheats, inflationary pressures increase forcing the Central Banks to increase the interest rates in order to cool the economy. US economy is the key factor in determining the global currency market sentiment. United States is the largest economy in the world. US economic news can and does affect the major currency pairs like EUR/USD, GBP/USD, CHF/USD and JPY/USD.
A strong economic expansion coupled with a healthy labor market tends to boost consumer spending in the country. This helps in selling the stuff produced by the local companies and businesses.
A country with a strong economy is in a better position to attract foreign investors. But this economic performance should be consistent and not erratic. With consistent economic growth spread over a decade, foreign investors become interested. Foreign investment flowing into the country increases the demand for that currency. This increased demand for that currency causes it to appreciate against other currencies.
How do you measure the economic performance of a country? Three of the most important indicators of a country economic growth are: 1) Gross Domestic Product (GDP). 2) The unemployment rate and 3) The trade balance or the current surplus or deficit. Lets discuss these three economic indicators.

Actually we will be usually talking about the GDP growth rate whether the economy is expanding or contracting. A healthy GDP growth rate figure usually adds a bullish sentiment to the currency of that country especially if it exceeds the market expectations. Always remember the markets react violently to surprises.
Unemployment Rate: A low unemployment rate is considered to be a positive for the countrys economy and its currency. A low unemployment rate means almost all the consumers have jobs and they are willing to spend more. The more the consumer spends, the more the companies and businesses in the country sell. This generates more output and further expands the economy. The unemployment rate data reports the state of the labor market in the country. The opposite is true for a high unemployment rate. High unemployment means the economy is in recession and many people are without jobs just like the present. Under such conditions, consumer spending decreases. Companies and businesses start laying off more workers and in extreme case go bankrupt when they cant sell their stuff in the markets.
Trade Balance: This is another widely watched economic indicator in fundamental analysis. If a country exports more than it imports, the trade balance is in surplus. If the imports are more than the exports, the country will end up with a trade deficit. Hull suffered from knee trouble throughout his career and was off the ice more than on it during the WHAs final season of 1979-80. After appearing in a handful of games for the Jets, he was shipped to the Hartford Whalers for future considerations. He would play in a few games for the Whalers before calling it a career. With the exception of an abortive comeback attempt with the New York Rangers in 1981 that was the end of his professional hockey career.

Modern fans may be more familiar with Hulls third son, Brett Hull, who earned NHL superstar status in his own right.
