Drunk In Charge Of A Jet Ski?

By George Ross

Jet Skiing is an exciting recreation. Breaking through the waters in your powerful rig, slicing through the waves while making trick after trick can be an exhilarating experience. It is quite easy to let yourself go in the excitement and fun. Mix that with alcohol and you can imagine where it goes.

Many have expressed concern regarding drunk riders and drivers taking a spin on their Jet Skis. Nowadays, it is common to see the youth having drinks on the beach. Jet Ski violations have been linked to such incidents. It has been noted that young people take their rigs after a round of shots and get dangerously close to boats in local bays.

Responsible owners of these machines are quite unyielding with the issue of alcohol and Jet Skiing. They listen to other people's concerns too. As a rule, they would never allow anyone who had been drinking to mount much less command their rigs.

Most if not all Jet Skiing accidents have been related to non conformity to safety precautions and rules. Quite a number of these accidents are also related to alcohol.

In Kentucky, 2 people were badly injured in a Jet Skiing accident. The drunk driver didnt realize that there was a jet ski passing behind him when he suddenly made a turn. In this accident alcohol played a major factor dulling the drivers concentration and judgment.

There are also people who voice concerns about the excessive noise Jet Skiers make at times claiming that riders may have been drunk or drinking, but most often than not, the riders are only enjoying themselves.

Everyone must remember that everybody needs to be sober when they are out in the water. It is even more important to bear in mind that we should never operate a watercraft when under the influence of alcohol. Not only do we endanger our own life but those of others as well.

I came across a personal injury lawyers site where I read that drinking and water sports do not mix. Furthermore, a person should never operate any kind of vehicle after consuming alcohol. Any untoward incident that may occur as a result will be his major responsibility.

Jet Skiing is an awesome and pleasure packed recreation. We have to remember at all times though that we are not only responsible for our welfare, but for the safety of others as well.
