Krav Maga is the Israeli militarys form of hand to hand combat. Born from the need to have a quick easy to learn self defense system, Krav Maga was quickly adopted and is still being used by the Israeli forces today.
Developed by Imi Lichtenfeld in Czechoslovakia during world war two, Krav Maga quickly learned the reputation of being fast, effective and brutal. After the war, Imi continued to hone his techniques until it was eventually adopted by the Israeli defense forces as its official self defense system.
What Makes Krav Maga so easy to learn? There are no kata's, no Dojo rules and none of the Budo Mumbo Jumbo so often associated with traditional martial arts. Instead Krav Maga uses techniques that have proven themselves time and time again to be effective on both the street and on the battlefield.
Anyone can learn Krav Maga but be forewarned you better be in good shape. Classes are generally structured around alot of cardio, and be prepared to practice your new found self defense techniques against multiple opponents. It's not uncommon to practice against 3 or 4 opponents until you're body just wants to quit due to exhaustion.
The idea is to engrain the techniques under high stress and fatigue until the practitioner can perform the moves without hesitation and thinking. This is what makes Krav Maga so effective. This constant practice under simulated real world combat conditions is what sets Krav Maga apart from other traditional martial arts.
