Entertaining Films Concerning Mistaken Identities

By Norman L Ellis

Trading places with another is always a fun and novel theory for a storyline of a motion picture. Try out these three videos about mistaken, exchanged or just erroneous identities. Be set to laugh as you see the characters finally understand another.

In 1987, Dudley Moore and Kirk Cameron portrayed father and son who traded places in the motion picture "Like Father, Like Son". The father unintentionally sprinkles a magic Indian potion into his bloody Mary and instantaneously he and his son have traded identities. Cast also includes Margaret Colin, Catherine Hicks, Patrick O'Neal and Sean Astin.

Dudley Moore is a heart doctor who is so obsessed in his own life and his own work that he fails to notice his son's difficulties with school and social activities. The identity crisis of course, leads to weird complications at school and work but also helps both father and son see the perspective of the other.

In a parallel plot the movie "Freaky Friday" from 2003 has Jamie Lee Curtis playing a mother who trades places with Lindsay Lohan who plays her 15 years old daughter. The mom wants more support for her upcoming marriage to her fianc and the daughter wants her mom to support her musical aspirations with her rock band.

A Chinese restaurant and a magic fortune cookie on Thursday night bring about a Friday like no other. But they have to find empathy for the other before the marriage ceremony takes place on Saturday. Stars Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan with Mark Harmon as the prospective husband and stepfather.

And next a movie about an individual pretending to have a different identity, "Mrs. Doubtfire" is about a free spirited husband and dad who gets a divorce from his wife after fourteen years. He cannot abide the notion of being away from his children so he dresses up as a British nanny and his ex-wife hires him.

Robin Williams stars as the father and of course, Mrs. Doubtfire, Sally Fields is the mom and Lisa Jakob, Matthew Lawrence and Mara Wilson play the children. Mrs. Doubtfire is a superb family movie from 1993 that should not be missed.

And of course, there may be more but there you have three recommendations for some hilarious and memorable films based upon the storyline of a mistaken identity. Have fun!
