Learn to Play Piano: How Piano Lessons Can Increase your Child's IQ

By Gretchen Mollse

My father had dreams of having a prodigy in the house. He was hoping a piano lesson could help do the trick. My brothers and I tried our best not to annoy our very patient piano teacher to death. Years later, I realized my father was right.

Now that I have kids of my own, I'm thinking of starting them with some piano lessons too. Some experts say learning how to play the piano can boost a child's brainpower. Here are some benefits your child will get from every piano lesson:

Creativity

Ever notice why a lot of educational programs have a lot of singing? Music helps children retain information a lot better. When children learn to play piano, it helps improve their visual learning skills so that they can process ideas better.

Confidence

Though a lot of kids are shy about performing, recitals are really an affirmative experience whenever parents are in the audience. Seeing how people appreciate their hard work and practice will encourage them to get better.

How to Focus

For parents, getting kids to concentrate better is a dilemma. Making them learn how to play piano will boost their concentration through constant practice. Just remember to keep sessions short and enjoyable so that they don't lose their enthusiasm for the game.

Coordination

Kids will have better coordination when they learn how to play piano. Playing with feeling require different techniques for touching keys while using foot pedals to resonate pieces correctly. Going through a passionate piano lesson is like having them participate in an athletic sport!

How to Have Wholesome Family Fun

The greatest thing about having a piano in the house is - everybody can join in! You can also take a piano lesson or two and learn along with your kids. It's better than being couch potatoes all day long.

While I didn't go on to play at Carnegie Hall, piano lessons were a memorable part of my childhood. If you want to give your child some happy memories and skills that can last a lifetime - piano lessons are the way to go. Just don't forget to buy some earplugs and get ready for some 'creative' noise.
